😬 Why I Don’t Offer Gold Card Discounts

Hi!

I wanted to share a conversation from one of our regional group chats last week that sparked some interesting thoughts on discounts and how they align with our business goals.

A Monaco Grad asked, “Hey ladies, I was wondering if anyone offers a discount for clients with a Gold Card?”

I choose not to and here’s why. The way I see it, I don’t have enough disposable income to distribute wealth, and giving a discount that doesn’t increase my overall income is doing exactly that, it’s charity.

If I DID have enough money to distribute my spare cash, I wouldn’t personally direct it towards elderly people who want their nails done (with the exception of a monthly rest home visit doing essential maintenance services), I would use it to feed young families who are struggling.

Elderly people are not my ideal customer avatar so I’m not trying to attract MORE elderly clients, I just love the ones I do have. The elderly clients I already have also don’t BRING me my avatar by way of word of mouth.

Don’t get me wrong, Gold Cards are super important for necessities like public transport, and if charity for elderly clients is something you are passionate about, then of COURSE, go for it! I’m not THAT cold hearted (even if it sounds like it), I just need to prioritise my own income.

At the end of the day, we each have to decide where we want to invest our resources. For me, it’s about prioritising my income and ensuring I have space for full-priced clients who match my target audience. If you’re NOT my avatar, and can’t GET me my avatar, you need to pay full price.

But hey, if I ever reach the point where I’m rolling in it, you better believe I’ll be saying, “YOLO, come for free if you’re over 85!” 😊

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you offer discounts for certain clients? How do you decide when and where to give them?

Let’s keep the conversation going!
