You should read our ‘Everything You Need to Know’ series if:
– you are or want to be a nail tech
– you’re not sure what services to learn / offer
Each post in the series goes over specific nail technology, what they are, how they work, some considerations and also pro tips, so you can decide if you should be offering the service in your salon.
(If you do decide you want to learn something nail-related, just remember we’re a pretty great nail academy!)
This post in our series is about IBX treatments.
What Is IBX?
IBX is a penetrative, two-part nail treatment system designed to strengthen and repair natural nails. Unlike other nail treatments that sit on the surface, IBX works inside the nail, fortifying it from within. It’s perfect for clients looking to improve the health of their natural nails, whether they wear enhancements or prefer a natural look.
How Does It Work?
- Preparation: Start by prepping the nails—shape them, push back the cuticles, and lightly buff the surface.
- IBX Repair: Apply IBX Repair to any damaged areas of the nail. Gently heat to help penetrate the nail surface. Blot then cure under a UV or LED light. Cleanse.
- First Time: If it’s the first IBX treatment for the client, then apply IBX Strengthen over the entire nail. Heat, blot, cure then cleanse.
- IBX Strength: Apply IBX Strengthen over entire nail surface. Heat for recommended time, blot, cure then cleanse.
After applying IBX, you can continue applying other nail enhancements on top or leave the nails natural.
Benefits of IBX
- Strengthens Natural Nails: IBX penetrates the nail plate, creating a strong, protective shield inside the nail, which helps prevent peeling, splitting, and breakage.
- Repairs Damage: IBX Repair targets specific areas of damage, promoting healthier and more resilient nails.
- Versatility: It can be used under all types of nail enhancements, including gel polish, acrylics, and hard gel, or on its own for a natural look.
- Improves Nail Health: Regular use of IBX leads to visibly healthier, stronger, and more flexible natural nails over time.
- Easy Integration: IBX treatments can be easily integrated into your regular nail services, adding value for your clients.
What to look out for
- Consistency: Clients need to keep up with regular treatments to see the best results, especially for severely damaged nails.
- Heating: Proper heating is essential, so the product can penetrate the nail plate effectively. But you don’t want it to be too hot that the product evaporates.
- Time: While the IBX process is relatively quick, it adds a few extra minutes to your service time.
Well-educated and qualified nail techs like our Monaco students and grads will be able to take these factors into account and keep clients safe.
Pro Tips for Better IBX Application
- Just Right: You just need enough heat to help the treatment penetrate, don’t go too far.
- Regular Use: Encourage clients to use IBX regularly for ongoing nail health improvements.
- Educate Clients: Explain the benefits of IBX and how it works to repair and strengthen their nails from within.
- Combine with Services: Offer IBX as an add-on to your regular services, highlighting its benefits for clients who wear enhancements or prefer natural nails.
- Track Progress: Keep track of your clients’ nail health progress with regular IBX treatments, and share before-and-after photos to showcase the results.
- Hydrate: Ask your clients to keep their nails and cuticles hydrated with oils and lotions to maintain nail health between manicures.
