Terms and Conditions of Training Enrolments
We know it’s normal to skim the T&C’s but this is not a copy and paste template – please do read and make sure you understand all of the below.
- Payment Plans
- By enrolling and making the first payment, you agree to 51 further weekly payments of the same amount.
- You can pay off the balance in full at any time and receive a 10% discount on the remaining balance.
- Any missed payment will result in one re-try after which you will be invoiced for the full balance of the remaining payments, due within 28 days.
- If the one re-try fails, course access will be revoked until the full invoiced balance is paid in full.
- Failure to meet these terms will result in your account being referred to a third-party debt collection agent.
- Course Fees
- Fees are payable, in full, at time of enrolment.
- We accept payment via Visa, Mastercard, Bank Transfer, Laybuy and Afterpay.
- We do not accept cash under any circumstances.
- Payment Plans
- We accept payment by LayBuy and Afterpay which are both automated Direct Debit/Payment Plan services. You can also book enrolments one module at a time to allow for even lower payments.
- We have had students successfully apply for WINZ funding to complete our course.
- We do not accept payment plans of any other kind.
- Withdrawing your Enrolment
- Once paid, course fees are non-refundable.
- Any cancellation applications must be made, in writing, to [email protected].
- Any accepted refund applications will be paid out on the 20th of the following month.
- We reserve the right to decline all requests other than those covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.
- If your cancellation request is denied and you can not or have not attended as originally planned, your fees will be forfeited You will need to re-enrol in the class at full price to complete your qualification.
- Lessons
- We reserve the right to cancel lessons up to 10 working days prior to their scheduled date if the lesson is not full (usually this means less than 6 bookings).
- Lessons are run by Mentors, high-scoring Graduates who we trust to work with our new students.
- The default location for completing classes is online, via Zoom. If you wish to complete a lesson in person, this can be completed with a mentor in their salon for an additional cost of $49 plus GST per hour, but is dependent on availability.
- Some skills in some modules need more than one 3-hour lesson to complete, for example, your first ever set of extensions – you might want to book a morning and afternoon back to back. Some others are fairly quick and you may be able to complete two skills in one session if you are an efficient worker. Your Lesson Guide (available at https://monaco.ac.nz/student-resources/) includes a recommended number of lessons for each skill. The number in this column is based on averages however you can work at a slower or faster pace. Do not rush yourself! Note that some sessions say .5, as in POINT 5 – none of them say 5 full sessions, be careful not to misread this. If a lesson says 2, we mean on the same day, to give you a total of 6 hours to work. If you choose not to do this, this is your prerogative, but if you do not meet the requirements of a lesson that had a’2′ on it within 1 lesson, we reserve the right to refuse to sign off the skill and to require you to pay to reattend ($90).
- You can complete the lessons in the order shown under ‘Lesson Number’ on your Lesson Guide BUT to make it easier on models and schedules, we also allow you to mix it up to a certain degree. If you plan on mixing it up, please pay careful attention to the column ‘Complete the following lessons first’. We will be checking your Lesson Guide on arrival to make sure you are ready for what you have planned. If you are not ready (have not completed the prerequisite lessons) and are inflexible with being able to swap for another skill, your lesson will be marked incomplete and will need to be rebooked at your own cost ($90).
- Your Mentor will be happy to demonstrate the steps for a skill during your lesson however you are still required to have done prior learning online before arrival. If you are not ready (have not completed the prerequisite online learning) and are inflexible with being able to swap for another skill or to catch up on the online learning before you start your model, your lesson will be marked incomplete and will need to be rebooked at your own cost.
- To have a lesson signed off, you must have followed the guidance of your Educator to complete the steps as per our lesson plan AND have completed 5 nails. If an Educator refuses to sign off a lesson, you have the right to request that a second opinion be requested from our Managing Director, Penny Lawler. This must be requested at the time of the lesson and not afterwards. If a lesson cannot be signed off either because the Educator was not comfortable with doing so and you did not request a second opinion OR because Penny agreed with the Educator, we are within our rights to mark your lesson incomplete and it will need to be rebooked at your own cost.
- Attendance
- Attendance of all lessons is compulsory.
- Any cancellation made within 72 hours of a Lesson will be charged a cancellation fee of $90. This covers the cost of the lesson you missed/cancelled, and allows you to rebook the future lesson. It is necessary because we run at very small class sizes. When you don’t turn up and then need to rebook that lesson, you have used 1/6th of our potential income twice, instead of the once that was covered in your Course Fees.
- You have 12 months from the date of enrolment to complete all Lessons associated with a Module.
- Missed classes for any reason including illness will be treated with the same terms and conditions as a ‘Cancellation’ (5.2). We understand you can’t plan for your illness but neither can we, and with small class sizes, a refund resulting from your illness would mean a significant loss for us.
- If you cannot attend a lesson without advance warning, please use the Novice/Grads Facebook Group to advise of this. We have different educators on different days and no phone line in the classroom so if you post in there anyone who needs to see it, will.
- No Shows
- The attendance and cancellation terms above apply in full to no-shows.
- No exceptional circumstances will be taken into account and the terms above are final.
- Accountability Groups
- These Groups have set start and finish dates, with fortnightly lessons. These lessons MUST be attended in the order they are scheduled.
- If you MUST miss a lesson, this lesson must be caught up within the following 2 weeks. While this is not guaranteed, we may be able to offer you the opportunity to join a different group. Alternatively, you can choose to rebook a one-on-one session at a cost of $49/hour.
- Assessments
- There are seven Assessments – Theory, Practical Manicure, Practical Liquid and Powder, Practical Hard Gel, Practical PolyGel, Practical Builder in a Bottle, and Practical E-File.
- The Theory Assessment is to be completed from home via the link in ‘The Theory of Nails’.
- The pass mark for each Assessment is 80% with no exceptions
- All Assessments must be passed within your 12 month Study Period (the 12 months from Enrolment), with no exceptions.
- Around 50% of students pass Acrylic and Hard Gel Practical assessments on their first attempt, and around 80% pass Gel Polish on their first attempt. You should be prepared to repeat if necessary. Repeats are free, with the exception of E-File.
- Please note that while there is no time limit for Assessments (although time does affect your score), lessons are three hours long and your Educator needs 15 minutes at the end to mark your Assessment. You must be finished with 15 min to spare. Your Educator will, as a legal requirement of their shift, be taking a 45 min break between lessons. If you are worried about time, you can book two lessons back to back and continue after the break – just be prepared to also take a 45 min break in the middle. You must BOOK the second lesson or a desk will not be reserved for you and if the class is full you will be unable to continue. If it is the last lesson of the day, your Educator will not stay late to mark your Assessment, you must be finished with 15 min to spare.
- Models
- You are expected to source your own models for all classes that require them.
- A sheet giving tips on finding models (including from out of town if you are travelling for your course) is also provided.
- You are only required to complete 5 nails to have a skill signed off (you will complete 10 when you do your portfolio). Note that you are required to work on a model for at least 80% of your lessons. We do not allow you to work on practice hands – the alternative to a model is your own nails. If your model does not turn up, you will be required to find a replacement or work on yourself. We highly recommend having a backup model planned. If you choose not to continue with the lesson, your lesson will be marked incomplete and will need to be rebooked at your own cost ($90).
- Certificates
- If you enroll in the Foundation Certificate, you will receive a Foundation Certificate with space for 12 modules to be completed.
- If you choose to enroll module by module, you can purchase a certificate specific to that Module.
- Product
- When you enroll you will have the opportunity to add on beginner kits to support your training. If you choose not to buy a kit, you’ll still be able to purchase professional grade product from us as you study – most other distributors will only allow this when study has been completed.
- During training you will get to know what you like and don’t like, decide what you need and don’t need, and then we teach you how to choose suppliers and product and how to order for yourself – something no one else teaches!
- Products used for this course must be professional-only or professional-standard.
- Kit Subscriptions
- By purchasing this item, you are agreeing to 52 weekly payments of $50, with kit items being sent out incrementally as payment milestones are reached.
- Once you purchase this item, please click here to complete your subscription and set up the direct debit of your remaining payments.
- Sizes, colours, and other variables may vary based on the stock we have at the time. For example, if we run low on Bright White Powder we will supply Soft White. If we run low on 120ml Monomer we will change it to 240ml. The contents will ALWAYS, however, cover what is needed to complete the course, and substitutes of equal value and quality may be provided to achieve this.
- In rare occurrences, a smaller-sized product than the one indicated on the list may be supplied. In that case, please note that by completing this subscription, you are already receiving an approximate 10% discount despite the increased costs associated with administrating this service. We will never decrease substitutions to the point that the entire discount is lost, but the exact value of the discount is not specific or guaranteed.
- Please do not book lessons until a Track n Trace for the corresponding kit inclusions has been sent to you.
- The Lesson order prescribed is a suggestion and not at all compulsory. It just allows us to space out your Kit Supplies to match the payments being made, while also giving you clarity on when each lesson can potentially be booked.
- The Artistic Cure Box will only be sent in Week 52 if ALL payments have been made automatically, on time, without our team needing to follow up. If any payments are missed, all 52 payments are still required to be made to cover additional administration associated with processing, packing, and posting the kit in increments where these costs would not be incurred were the kit sent in one package. The PolyGel, Soft Gel Extension, Art and E-File items will be delayed until Week 52 to ensure these payments are made and a one-month extension provided to ensure lessons can be completed.
- Note that the shipping schedule for this subscription is different if you are enrolled in an Accountability Group as the lessons are in a different order (Acrylic is alternated with other topics throughout the year) and therefore will be supplied with the rest of your enrolment information.
- Completing the Foundation Certificate in Nail Technology
- In order to receive your qualification, you must attend all lessons (either online or in-person) of The Theory of Nails, Manicures and Pedicures, Using the IBX System, Builder in a Bottle, Dipping Systems, Acrylic, Hard Gel, PolyGel, Pre-Formed Soft Gel Extensions, E-File, The Art of Nails and Salon Success and pass all relevant assessments listed in the above terms.
- All Assessments require a mark of 80% or higher to pass.
- You have 12 months from the date of Enrolment to complete all other criteria. Please plan ahead and manage your time wisely. NO EXCEPTIONS OR EXTENSIONS WILL BE GRANTED.
- As an adult student, do not expect reminders from us. It is your responsibility to manage your time.
- Expectations
- As you are learning, please place reasonable expectations on yourself – not every set will last as long as they are meant to when applied with experience. This doesn’t mean you’re no good or you haven’t learnt anything – when you first learnt to drive you were probably terrible. When you passed your test you were good enough – but compared to now? Experience and practise are everything.
- If you need extra help, there is a lot available – it is your responsibility to ask for it.
- The hours of training covered by your Course Fees are supplied within the structure of scheduled Modules and not to be expected outside of this.
- You will have access to the Novice/Grads Facebook Group for as long as you are either a student or graduate. Should you withdraw or not complete your qualification, you will be removed. Nastiness and anti-competitive behaviour will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove individuals from the group at our discretion. Information provided within the group is copyrighted by Monaco Nail Academy and individuals found sharing it with non-group-members will be removed and our right to pursue court action for copyright infringement may be invoked. In saying that, we’ve never had to remove people for any reason other than non-completion before – we just reserve the right to protect the wonderful community we currently have.

- This means that when you request to add additional Modules to your enrolment via email, phone or other means, these Terms and Conditions apply.
- If the Terms and Conditions are updated after the date of your enrolment, we may require you to enroll in further Modules via this website in order to accept the new Terms and Conditions.
- We reserve the right to change the Terms and Conditions at any time and apply them to future enrolments. This means if you are only enrolling in one Module at a time rather than all four, different terms may apply to future Modules. The requirements to complete your qualification will not change.
