Terms and Conditions of Training Enrolments
We know it’s normal to skim the T&C’s but this is not a copy and paste template – please do read and make sure you understand all of the below.
- Payment Plans
- By enrolling and making the first payment on any course, event, or kit subscription, you agree to 51 further weekly payments of the same amount, for a total of 52 payments.
- You may choose to pay off the remaining balance in full at any time and receive a 10% discount on the outstanding amount. This discount must be requested at the time of payment and will not be applied retroactively.
- If a payment is missed:
- The system will retry the payment automatically for 14 days.
- If unsuccessful, you will be invoiced for the full remaining balance, with the invoice due 28 days from the date of issue.
- Your course access will be revoked immediately until the full invoiced amount is paid in full.
- Once the balance is paid in full:
- For Kit Subscriptions, all remaining kit items will be sent.
- For Courses or Events, all relevant pre-recorded or written materials will be provided, and you will be able to book lessons or attend events.
- The 12-month Study Period* still applies, and no extensions will be granted for students whose access was revoked due to non-payment or late payment.
- Failure to pay the invoiced balance may result in your account being referred to a third-party debt collection agent, as outlined in the Debt Collection section.
- Please note:
- Payment via Afterpay is not considered a Payment Plan under these Terms and Conditions. These services pay Monaco Nail Academy in full at the time of purchase, and your repayment terms are agreed directly with Afterpay.
- Entering into a Payment Plan means you are liable for all 52 payments, regardless of whether you complete the course. Failure to make payments will result in the balance being invoiced, and eventually referred to debt collection if still unpaid.
- Debt Collection
- If a payment of any kind is missed and not resolved within 14 days, an invoice for the full remaining balance of your course or kit subscription will be issued. This invoice will be due within 28 days from the date of issue.
- If payment is not received by the due date:
- A 10% late payment penalty will be added to the outstanding balance.
- Interest will begin accruing at 2.5% per month from the original due date.
- If the account remains unpaid 7 days after the invoice due date, it will be referred to Baycorp, our third-party debt collection agency. At this point:
- A referral fee of $13.80 (incl. GST) and an additional fee of 28.75% of the unpaid balance will be added to your account.
- You will be liable for all costs associated with the recovery of the debt, including legal fees and third-party charges.
- By accepting these Terms and Conditions, you agree:
- That all invoices must be paid within 7 days unless otherwise stated.
- That any overdue amounts will incur penalties and interest as detailed above.
- That if referred to a debt collection agency, you will be responsible for all associated collection costs.
- These terms apply to all training enrolments and purchases made with Monaco Nail Academy from the date of your first agreement to these Terms and Conditions, unless you click ‘I Accept’ on revised Terms and Conditions, in which case they will apply instead.
- By accepting these Terms and Conditions, you agree to indemnify Monaco Nail Artists Ltd T/A Monaco Nail Academy against all costs, whether commission, legal fee or otherwise, incurred by you or your duly authorised agents relating to the recovery of any unpaid account that may be outstanding from time to time pursuant to the terms of this agreement
- By accepting these Terms and Conditions, you agree that the Terms of Trade are strictly settlement on or before 7 days following issue of invoice and that Monaco Nail Artists Ltd T/A Monaco Nail Academy will be entitled to charge interest at the rate of 2.5% per month on all amounts that have not been paid in full by the due date.
- Course Fees
- Course fees are payable in full at the time of enrolment, unless a Payment Plan has been entered into with agreement from both parties.
- We accept the following payment methods:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- Bank Transfer
- Afterpay – This is an automated third-party payment service. When you choose this option, Monaco Nail Academy is paid in full at the time of purchase, and your repayment terms are managed directly with Afterpay.
- To help spread the cost, you may also choose to enrol one module at a time.
- We do not accept cash under any circumstances.
- Withdrawing your Enrolment
- Once paid, course fees are non-refundable.
- Any cancellation requests must be made in writing to [email protected].
- If a refund is approved under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, payment will be made on the 20th of the following month. The CGA applies where a service is not delivered with reasonable care and skill, or does not match what was advertised. It does not apply simply because you’ve changed your mind or your circumstances have changed.
- We reserve the right to decline any request for cancellation or refund unless required by law.
- If your cancellation request is declined and you can not or do not attend as originally planned, your fees will be forfeited. You will need to re-enrol at full price in order to complete your qualification.
- Once paid, course fees are non-refundable.
- Lessons
- We reserve the right to cancel lessons up to 10 working days before their scheduled date if the class is not full (usually fewer than 6 bookings).
- Lessons are run by Mentors — high-scoring graduates we trust to guide new students. The default lesson format is online via Zoom, but in-person sessions may be arranged in a Mentor’s salon at an additional cost of $49 + GST per hour, subject to availability.
- Some skills may take longer than a single 3-hour lesson to complete. For example, your first set of extensions may require both a morning and afternoon session booked back-to-back. Others may be quicker, and efficient students might complete two skills in a single session. Your Lesson Guide (available at monaco.ac.nz/student-resources) includes recommended lesson counts for each skill — but these are averages. You’re welcome to work at your own pace. Don’t rush!
- ⚠️ Be careful with numbers in the Lesson Guide — a value of “.5” means half a lesson, not five. If a lesson is marked “2”, that means two 3-hour blocks on the same day (a total of 6 hours). If you choose not to book both, you may not meet the requirements, and you may be required to pay to reattend.
- Lessons can be completed in the order shown in the ‘Lesson Number’ column of your Guide, but to help with model availability and scheduling, some flexibility is allowed. If you choose to work out of order, you must follow the ‘Complete the following lessons first’ column. We check this when you arrive. If you have not completed the prerequisites and can’t swap to another skill on the day, your lesson will be marked incomplete and must be rebooked at your own cost.
- Mentors are happy to demonstrate steps during your lesson, but you are still required to complete the prerequisite online learning beforehand. If you haven’t, and can’t catch up or swap skills, the lesson will be marked incomplete and will need to be rebooked.
- To have a skill signed off, you must:
- Follow your Educator’s guidance and the lesson plan, and
- Complete five nails to the expected standard.
- If an Educator refuses to sign off your work, you have the right to request a second opinion from Managing Director Penny Lawler — but this must be requested during the lesson, not afterwards. If a second opinion is not requested at the time, or Penny agrees with the Educator, the lesson will be marked incomplete and rebooking will be at your own cost.
- In the rare event that Monaco Nail Academy cancels or reschedules a class, we will offer alternative dates or formats at no additional cost to you.
- Monaco Nail Academy will not be held responsible for disruptions caused by events outside of our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, power outages, or platform outages (e.g. Zoom or course platform errors). In such cases, we will make reasonable efforts to reschedule lessons or extend access, but no refunds or liability will apply.
- Attendance
- Attendance of all lessons is compulsory.
- If your lessons have been pre-booked at the time of enrolment, or you are enrolled in a course with set lesson times (e.g. fortnightly at 6pm Monday), any lesson you do not attend must be rebooked at your own cost.
- These lessons must be attended in the order they are scheduled. If you must miss a lesson, it must be caught up within the following two weeks, before attending any further scheduled lessons.
- While not guaranteed, we may be able to offer a space in another group if availability allows. Alternatively, you can choose to book a one-on-one session with an Educator at a cost of $49 per hour.
- If you have not caught up before the next scheduled lesson and are therefore not ready to attend, this lesson will also be deemed cancelled and the same terms will apply.
- If you are enrolled in a Pay As You Go (PAYG) module, or any variation where you book your own lessons, any cancellation made within 72 hours will forfeit your booking fee and the lesson must be rebooked at your own cost.
- We reserve the right to charge an additional $90 cancellation fee for any cancellation made within 72 hours of a lesson. This is necessary because we run very small class sizes. When you cancel late and later rebook, you’ve used two potential lesson spaces — but only paid for one as part of your Course Fees.
- You have 12 months from the date of enrolment to complete all lessons associated with a module.
- Missed classes for any reason including illness will be treated with the same terms and conditions as a ‘Cancellation’. We understand you can’t plan for your illness but neither can we, and with small class sizes, a refund resulting from your illness would mean a significant loss for us.
- If you are unable to attend a lesson without prior notice, please post in the group chat associated with your course (found at https://monaco.ac.nz/regional-group-chats/). We have different educators on different days and no phone line in the classroom — posting in the group ensures your message reaches the right people.
- No Shows
- The Attendance and Cancellation terms outlined above apply in full to no-shows.
- No exceptional circumstances will be taken into account. The terms are final and apply regardless of the reason for your absence.
- Assessments
- There are seven Assessments within our modules:
- Theory
- Practical Manicure
- Practical Liquid and Powder (Acrylic)
- Practical Hard Gel
- Practical PolyGel
- Practical Builder in a Bottle
- Practical E-File
- The Theory Assessment is completed from home via the link provided in The Theory of Nails module.
- The pass mark for all assessments is 80%, with no exceptions.
- All Assessments must be passed within your 12-month Study Period (the 12 months from your enrolment date). No extensions will be granted for this requirement. You should be prepared to repeat if necessary.
- Time management during assessments:
- While there is no fixed time limit on assessments themselves, there may be a time restraint based on the lesson slot you book into and time does affect your score.
- Most lessons slots are three hours long, and your Educator needs 15 minutes at the end to complete your marking. Your Educator will not stay late to mark your work – you must finish with 15 minutes to spare or forfeit marking.
- Educators are entitled to rest and meal breaks under the Employment Relations Act 2000. As such, your Educator may take a scheduled break during longer lesson slots – be prepared to take that break as well.
- There are seven Assessments within our modules:
- Models
- You are expected to source your own models for all lessons that require them.
- We provide a support sheet with tips for finding models, including suggestions for those travelling from out of town – https://monaco.ac.nz/how-to-find-a-nail-model-last-minute-tips/
- To have a skill signed off, you only need to complete 5 nails (please note that Assessments require 10). You are required to work on a model for at least 80% of your lessons.
- We do not allow the use of practice hands. If a model is unavailable, the only alternative is to work on your own nails.
- If your model does not arrive, you will be required to source a replacement or work on yourself. We strongly recommend having a backup model arranged in advance.
- If you choose not to continue with the lesson due to a missing model, the session will be marked incomplete and will need to be rebooked at your own cost.
- Certificates
- If you enrol in the Foundation Certificate, you will receive a Foundation Certificate with space for 12 modules to be completed.
- If you choose to enroll module by module, you can purchase a certificate specific to that Module.
- Product
- When you enrol, you will have the opportunity to add beginner kits to support your training.
- If you choose not to purchase a kit, you will still be able to buy professional-grade products directly from us while you study.
- All products used during your course must be professional-only or, where a professional-only option doesn’t exist, professional-standard .
- Kit Subscriptions
- This section applies only to students who have purchased the Kit Subscription at https://monaco.ac.nz/product/kit-subscription/ and NOT to students who receive the kit as part of their enrolment and have the entire enrolment on a payment plan – the kit contents, shipping schedule, lessons and pricing are all different.
- By purchasing a Kit Subscription, you agree to 52 weekly payments of $50, with kit items sent incrementally as payment milestones are reached.
- After purchasing, you must complete your subscription setup by following the instructions to establish your direct debit for the remaining payments.
- Product Variations and Substitutions
- Sizes, colours, and other variables may vary depending on stock availability. For example:
- If Bright White Powder is unavailable, we may substitute Soft White.
- If 120ml Monomer is low in stock, we may send 240ml instead.
- Sizes, colours, and other variables may vary depending on stock availability. For example:
- The contents will always cover what is needed to complete your course, and substitutions of equal value and quality may be made where necessary.
- In rare cases, a smaller-sized product than listed may be supplied. Please note:
- Your subscription includes an approximate 10% discount, even with the increased admin and shipping costs associated with sending kits incrementally.
- We will never reduce the value of substitutions to a point where the discount is lost, but the exact value of the discount is not guaranteed.
- Lesson Timing and Delivery
- Please do not book lessons until you have received a Track & Trace for the corresponding kit inclusions.
- The lesson order provided is a recommendation only — it helps us align your kit deliveries with your payments, and gives you clarity on when each lesson can reasonably be booked.
- Missed Payments
- The Artistic Cure Box will only be sent in Week 52 if ALL payments have been made automatically, on time, without our team needing to follow up.
- If any payments are missed, all 52 must still be completed to cover additional admin, packing, and shipping costs that would not apply if the kit were sent as one package.
- The Artistic Cure Box, along with items for PolyGel, Soft Gel Extensions, Art, and E-File, will be delayed until Week 52 to ensure all payments are made.
- A one-month extension will be granted to complete any remaining lessons once these items are received.
- Completing the Foundation Certificate in Nail Technology
- To receive your Foundation Certificate in Nail Technology, you must:
- Attend all lessons (online or in-person) for the following modules:
- The Theory of Nails
- Manicures and Pedicures
- Using the IBX System
- Builder in a Bottle
- Dipping Systems
- Acrylic
- Hard Gel
- PolyGel
- Pre-Formed Soft Gel Extensions
- E-File
- The Art of Nails
- Salon Success
- Pass all relevant assessments associated with the modules listed above.
- All assessments require a minimum score of 80% to pass.
- Attend all lessons (online or in-person) for the following modules:
- You have 12 months from the date of enrolment to complete all lessons, assessments, and other criteria.
- No exceptions or extensions will be granted, regardless of personal circumstances.
- As an adult student, please do not rely on reminders from us — it is your responsibility to manage your progress and your Study Period.
- To receive your Foundation Certificate in Nail Technology, you must:
- Expectations
- As you’re learning, please place reasonable expectations on yourself. Not every set you complete will last as long as a seasoned tech’s — and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean you’re no good or haven’t learnt anything. Think about when you first learnt to drive — you might have passed your test, but you still weren’t as skilled as you are now. It’s the same with nails: passing means you’re competent, but experience and practice are what will take you to the next level.
- If you need help, support is available — but it is your responsibility to ask for it.
- The hours of training covered by your Course Fees are delivered within the structure of scheduled Modules. Training and mentoring outside of this structure is not included unless explicitly offered.
- You will have access to the Novice/Grads Facebook Group and associated Group Chats for as long as you are an active student or graduate. If you withdraw or do not complete your qualification, your access will be removed.
- We do not tolerate nastiness or anti-competitive behaviour in the groups and reserve the right to remove individuals at our discretion.
- Information provided within the groups is copyrighted by Monaco Nail Academy. Sharing this content with anyone outside the group is not permitted. We reserve the right to pursue legal action for copyright infringement if this occurs. That said, we’ve never had to remove anyone for anything other than non-completion — and we’re proud of the kind, supportive community that exists in the group.

- Students are expected to have:
- Accessibility & Support
- If you require learning support or adjustments to training delivery due to disability, neurodiversity, or personal circumstances, please contact us at [email protected] as early as possible.
- While we cannot change our assessment standards, we will work with you to support your success wherever reasonably possible.
- Schedule Changes & Course Adjustments
- Monaco Nail Academy reserves the right to make changes to lesson dates, course content, educators, or product suppliers when necessary to ensure quality training.
- Where changes are required, we will notify students of significant updates as soon as possible and offer alternatives when available.
- In Conclusion
- The Terms and Conditions listed above cover this and all future enrolments with Monaco Nail Academy.
- This means that when you request to add additional Modules to your enrolment via email, phone, or other means, these Terms and Conditions apply.
- If the Terms and Conditions are updated after the date of your enrolment, we may require you to enrol in further Modules via this website in order to accept the new Terms and Conditions.
- We reserve the right to change the Terms and Conditions at any time and apply them to future enrolments. This means if you are only enrolling in one Module at a time rather than all at once, different terms may apply to future Modules. By enrolling in future modules, you acknowledge that the current Terms and Conditions at the time of each enrolment will apply. We may update these Terms at any time and will notify you of significant changes. The requirements to complete your qualification will not change.
*Study Period: The 12-month period starting from the date of enrolment in each Module or Course, during which all training and assessments must be completed.
